APUA - Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics
APUA was founden as a non-profit global organiazation in 1981 with the mission to strengthen society's defenses against infectious diseases by promoting appropriate antimicrobial access and use and controlling antimicrobial resisitance on a worldwide basis.
EARSS - European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System
EARSS is a European wide network of national surveillance systems, providing reference data on antimicrobial resistance for public heath purposes. This network recieves funding from the European Commission's Directoreate-General for Health and Consumer Affairs (DG SANCO).
ESAC - European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption
The European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption (ESAC) project, granted by the European Commission, is an international network of national surveillance systems aiming to collect reliable and comparable antibiotic consumption data for public health purposes in all European countries.
EUCAST - the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing
EUCAST is a standing committee of ESCMID and consists of a body of experts appointed by national societies of clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases and national breakpoint committees. EUCAST will act with the support of national breakpoint committees to harmonize breakpoints for existing antimicrobials and set breakpoints for new antimicrobials. In this professional consensus process EUCAST will liaise with other professional groups and organisations.
Grace - Genomics to combat Resistance against Antibiotics in Community-acquired LRTI in Europe
Grace is a new scientific network, supported by the EU's Research Framework Programme, to tackle the increasing problem of resistance to antibiotics when dealing with lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI).
IPSE - Improving Patient Safety in Europe
IPSE aims to resove persisting differences in the variability of preventive practices and outcomes with respect to nosocomial infection and antibiotic resistance in Europe. An extended partnership has been created, including EU, WHO, ESCMID, some major public health institutes and EU-supported networks.
ReAct - Action on Antibiotic Resistance
ReAct is a coalition that links a wide range of individuals, organisations an networks around the world taking concerted action to respond to antibiotic resistance. The mission is that current and future generations of people around the globe should have acces to effective treatment of bacterial infections.
Collaboration in the EU
Workshop in Paris november 6-7, 2008
France, now chair of EU, has arranged a workshop about the fight against antibiotic resistance. This is a part of the shared responsibility over two years between Slovenia, France, the Czech Republic and Sweden for this topic. Programme, documentation and presentations are available.
