European recommendations on healthcare associated infections
The Commission has adopted a proposal for Council recommendations on patient safety. Healthcare associated infections are mentioned as an example of preventable injuries. Systematic efforts including education and improved reporting are methods that have proven efficient.
The first-ever European Antibiotic Awareness Day will be celebrated in 27 EU member states. In Sweden, Strama is launching a campaign with information and advice about common colds. The message is: Take care, not antibiotics!

Sweden has the lowest use of antibiotics in the Nordic countries, but the use of quinolones is still high
In Sweden and Norway, the use of antibiotics has increased steadily during the last three years. In Denmark, the increase has been going on for a longer period. Among the Nordic countries, Sweden still has the lowest total use. However, we have the second highest use of fluoroquinolones, following Finland. Click on "Read more" for statistics!
ESBL resistance in enteric bacteria - proposed action plan
Strama has taken the initiative in creating a national strategy against ESBL resistance, containing diagnosis, epidemiological typing and antibiotic recommendations.
